Jewellery – Polymer clay and resin
Baked polymer clay is a light and durable medium that is easy to clean and when looked after appropriately will last a long time. It is flexible and can withstand daily wear. Similarly, cured resin is strong, durable medium that should be handled with care to avoid frosting, cracks and chips. To give your pieces the best chance for long wear and extended durability, please consider the following tips:
- Always handle with care – avoid throwing and/or bending your jewellery.
- Store away from direct sunlight in a bag or box.
- Keep away from moisture.
- Remove jewellery when sleeping.
- Keep away from abrasive elements.
- Remove jewellery when swimming and showering.
- Do not soak pieces in water.
- Do not scrub pieces.
- Keep away from fire, heat and smoke – this can discolour resin pieces.
- Keep away from chemicals – this includes perfume, creams, sunscreen etc.
To clean your polymer clay or resin jewellery, carefully wipe pieces with a damp cloth to remove make-up stains and dirt. Make-up remover and baby wipes are ideal for cleaning your polymer clay pieces. Resin is best cleaned with mild dishwashing soap and a damp microfibre cloth.
Jewellery – Brass charms
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc and will tarnish to create a patina when exposed to oxygen. Tarnishing is a protective layer for the brass and is a natural process. The oils on your skin also have an effect on brass, so the more an item is used, the more it will develop a patina.
While some people find the development of a patina an attractive quality, you can easily get rid of it with a jewellery polishing cloth. You may alternatively choose to use a small amount of brass cleaner and a microfibre cloth. Do not expose polymer clay or resin pieces to brass cleaner.
Jewellery – Stainless steel findings
We use surgical stainless steel components which are generally protected from tarnish and rust. To clean earring backs, hooks and pins simply wipe down with mild dishwashing soap and a damp microfibre cloth.
Homewares
As noted above, all resin and acrylic polymer homewares should be kept away from sunlight, heat and smoke. Handle all homeware pieces with care ensuring you don’t drop them to prevent chips and cracks in the resin. Our homewares pieces are not food or dishwasher safe. They should not be submerged in water and cleaned only with mild dishwashing detergent and a microfibre cloth.
Safety warning – Children
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, our jewellery and homeware pieces are made for adults only. Do not allow any children to play with, wear or chew on your jewellery or homewares under any circumstances. Children should never be left unattended around jewellery or homewares as the materials used are not food grade, should not be consumed and the components potentially present serious choking hazards.
